Groundhog Removal
Pest & Wildlife Control in the Kansas City Metro Area
Groundhogs are also known as woodchucks and can cause a lot of damage to your property. They burrow deep into the ground and create large holes by excavating dirt. These tunnels might end up underneath your home, compromising the structure. Getting rid of these animals as quickly as possible with the help of a professional is always the best course of action.
What Kind of Damage Can Groundhog Cause?
A groundhog can remove as much as 700 pounds of soil as they complete their tunnels. These tunnels can undermine the foundation of your home or another structure on your property which can eventually lead to damage.
Gardeners also understand the damage that a groundhog or woodchuck can cause. They often steal beans, strawberries, peas and many other kinds of plants that gardeners enjoy growing.

Referred to Catch-It from a co-worker. They were very professional and very quick to respond. Ben is a freakin' "Rock Star". I bought a house and a family of large rodents, yes, groundhogs. They freaked me out. Ben came out right away with traps and caught them all. He's kinda tall for crawl spaces but he went in anyway. I will call them every time and I have already given a co-worker a referral. Thank you for being patient with this freaked-out lady!

Steve and his group handled my pesky groundhog infestation very well. They were able to set live traps where they were entering near my foundation. Soon they had caught them all.

Can I Get Rid of Groundhogs Myself?
There are a number of chemical repellents that you might be able to use to help rid your property of groundhogs. However, repellents are not usually 100% effective. Actually, they very rarely work at all. You need to get rid of the groundhog population on your property before they have enough time to breed. The young are born around April or May, so it is extremely important to get rid of any groundhogs before this part of the year.
If the groundhog population on your property has bred, you should not be surprised to find a large amount of tunnels appearing soon. The young groundhogs will leave the den of their mother when they are about five weeks old to seek out their own den. These young groundhogs will dig up holes that you may have already filled up with dirt - causing even more possible damage.
Are Woodchucks Dangerous?
A woodchuck is not necessarily a dangerous animal, as they usually run away from humans unless their den is threatened. If they feel like their den is being threatened, they will defend themselves with two large incisors at the front of their jaw as well as their front claws. In addition, they have been known to carry rabies from time to time. But, the biggest danger is the threat that they pose to your home and your property.
When Do You Need To Call a Professional?
Taking control of your groundhog problem is best done sooner rather than later. It is best to contact professionals, like the technicians at Catch-It Wildlife & Pest Control, as soon as you realize that there is a woodchuck population on your property in the Kansas City Metro Area.
